6 Home Remedies for Cleaning Tile

Everyone wants a modern tile look that requires as little maintenance as possible. The reality is that if you do not take care of cleaning your tile and grout, layers of dirt and grime can build up, and over time this can be a breeding ground for mold and mildew.
In this post, we will show SIX tricks you can use to clean your tile.
1. Baking Soda Scrub
Baking soda dissolves organic compounds like dirt, grease, and other sticky substances. What’s excellent about baking soda is that each baking soda particle provides a gentle abrasive to clean without scratching a surface like a tile.
For this remedy, you will need to mix ¼ cup of white vinegar, one tablespoon of liquid dish soap, ¼ cup of baking soda, and two gallons of hot water. If you want to add fragrance, you can include a few drops of essential oil. Once you have a thick mixture, you can start applying to stains and grout lines and leave for a while. You can then clean with warm water. This method works with most tiles except for some natural stones like limestone or marble.
2. Can Salt Clean Tiles?
Absolutely, we can use the sanitizing power of salt to clean floors, tiles, and hard surfaces except for marble since it is a more sensitive material.
A salt scrub is a great way to kill single-cell organisms such as bacteria and mold as it dehydrates them through osmosis. The bacteria-killing ability of salt helps clean tile and grout.
Keep the area wet or rub it with a damp cloth for this remedy. Sprinkle a good amount of salt over the surface and scrub into the grout lines. Let the salt sit overnight, then clean it in the morning with water.
3. Minty Mixture To Clean Your Floors
For a natural fresh smelling tile cleaner, nothing beats the minty mixture.
For this remedy, combine equal parts water, white vinegar, and rubbing alcohol; add ½ teaspoon of liquid dish soap and a few drops of peppermint essential oil. You can use a bucket or spray bottle to dispense the mixture onto the floor as you mop.
4. Mouthwash Solution for Tile
For this remedy, add a capful of mouthwash to a gallon of warm water and use this mixture to clean and disinfect tile floors. This works great with vinyl and tile floors but should not be used for wooden floors.
5. Lemon Juice Mixture to Remove Tile Stains
Fresh lemon juice is acidic and works great on stains. Fill a spray bottle with lemon juice and spritz on tiles before wiping clean with a damp cloth or sponge. Another method is to soak a cloth directly in lemon juice before wiping tiles, then rinse off with warm water.
6. Mold and Mildew Remover
For a quick, easy way to fight mold and mildew on your bathroom tile or shower curtain, try mixing equal parts of lemon juice and baking soda. Spread the mixture on the mold or mildewed area and leave for a couple of hours before rinsing.

Tile & Grout Cleaning Disclaimer
Not all tile and grout are installed correctly. As a result, there is the potential for loose grout and/or caulking to be dislodged. Often if a type of coating was applied to the grout lines, this can be removed during the cleaning process.
In short, tile that is properly installed has not been subject to harsh cleaners, has no foreign material, and the grout mortar is the proper depth, will in most cases, clean up nicely with no problems.
Golden Line Green Care tries to determine if the tile has been properly installed. However, to be sure is impossible. THEREFORE, we are not responsible for any situations that may arise from the cleaning of tile and the grout lines
